The Academic and Clinical Unit for Musculoskeletal Nursing (ACUMeN) comprises 3 related domains, research, education and practice.
Research
The Educational Needs Assessment Tool (ENAT)
- A 3 year study to translate the ENAT into Dutch, Finnish, Spanish and Swedish commenced in January 05 and will complete in January 2008.
- Assessment as to its use as a generic tool for arthritis will complete in June 2007.
- An assessment of patient perceptions of care from an outpatient clinic completed and a paper is in press.
Further collaborative research
- A study on the effects of fibromyalgia on sexual activity/relationships has being undertaken in Stoke-on-Trent and a paper submitted to Rheumatology.
- A study investigating communication strategies (mind map) for ethnic minority patients with rheumatic disorders is completed and a paper is in press with Rheumatology.
- A nationwide RCT of outcome and cost effectiveness from nurse led clinics will begin in July.
Education
- The rheumatology module is running its third cohort.
- ACUMeN is a designated Teaching Centre for the arc course and our module was held in February. The Practice Development Unit – health benefits/ informing policy
- The PDU has achieved its phase one accreditation.
